5 Reasons To Move To Rockwood
For over ten years I’ve called Rockwood, Ontario home. I tell everyone and anyone that will listen how much I love living in Rockwood with my family!
My husband Justin and I made the decision to move to Rockwood back in 2011. Here are some of the reasons we chose to move to this beautiful village.
1) The Rockwood Conservation Area
If you love the outdoors, look no further than the Rockwood Conservation area! The mill ruins, caves and water allow for so much adventure and exploration! If you like camping, this is the place for you in the spring, summer & fall.
2) Home prices are more affordable than most of the GTA
If you’ve been looking in Milton, Oakville and Burlington for homes for sale but have been coming up against a tight budget, you should definitely check out Rockwood. While inventory here in town can be limited due to our small population, homes are overall more affordable than in the major greater Toronto area cities. You simply get more house when you move a little further outside the GTA. That’s the reason we moved to Rockwood back in 2011: we could have bought a townhome in Milton or a detached home here in Rockwood. It was a no-brainer for our family!
3) Convenient location to city centres / highways
Did you know that Rockwood is only 20 minutes North of Milton, by way of Acton? That means that highway 401 isn’t far away, plus you are situated only 15 minutes from Guelph. Both Guelph and Milton are your major city centres when you live in Rockwood. Both are convenient! Then you have Acton which is only ten minutes down the road and offers multiple grocery stores, restaurants & more.
4) Small town vibes & events
My favourite part of Rockwood has to be our neighbours. We love the small town vibes that Rockwood gives! We have a Facebook group called Rockwood Friends & Neighbours where people are always happy to help each other out. We have a Farmer’s Market in the summer & fall months as well as ice rinks made by volunteer townspeople during the winter! And most famously just before Christmas we have the Rockwood Farmers’ Santa Claus Parade of Lights where our local farmers dress up their tractors, trucks & combines to wish a merry Christmas to parade lovers each year!
5) Great for kids . . . schools and more!
We have an abundance of amazing schools and activities for kids. Rockwood is extremely family-centric as a neighbourhood. When they’re too young for kindergarten consider Rockwood Nursery School. Both my kids went and the women that run that school - Nikki and Victoria - are simply the best ever! As for elementary schools my kids now attend Ecole Harris Mill Public School (grades JK - 5) and there’s also Rockwood Centennial which caters to grades K-8. Situated at the North part of town is Sacred Heart Catholic School which caters to grades JK-8. Thinking we’re all work and no play? No way! Rockwood offers so many awesome programs for kids, from dance & soccer to karate. Not to mention the surrounding towns (e.g. Guelph, Milton, Acton & Georgetown) that also offer lots of recreational programming for children.
